How it works

Line amount = quantity × unit price
Subtotal = all line amounts, minus any discount
Tax = subtotal × tax rate
Total due = subtotal + tax

Give every invoice its own number and keep a copy. A simple running list of invoice numbers, dates and when each was paid makes tax time much easier.

Things to check before you send

Local invoice rules. Some countries need a tax number, a business address or certain wording on every invoice.
Payment terms. Agree the due date and any late fees with your client before the work starts.
Your records. This page does not save invoices. Save each PDF in a folder by year.
